Rock104 lives on through student-led/UF media properties project
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Division of Multimedia Properties, working in conjunction with a group of UF Journalism and Communications students, announces the launch of the all new Rock104.com, the foundation for a new online and new media radio project designed to serve rock music listeners in Gainesville and around the world via the Internet and provide a unique real-world learning experience for UF students.
Chris Coleman, a UF telecommunications major from Cummins, Ga. and one of the leaders of the new Rock104.com said, “With the new Rock104.com, you are gonna see a fresh face lift to the former station, commercial free, and focused on giving the listener exactly what they want. Music.”. Focusing initially on the rock music format that Rock104 has been known for over the past three decades, the new Rock104 will be “all about the music” providing listeners with more music than they can hear on any other rock radio station in the Gainesville-Ocala market and a format that is truly unique featuring a blend of active and alternative rock along with independent artists not typically heard on traditional radio, including local acts.
“We’re really excited about this ground-breaking project in the launch of student-led Rock104.com”, said Randy Wright, Executive Director of UF’s Division of Multimedia Properties. “I’ve never been involved in a media project that had as much potential as Rock104.com does. Our students are some of the brightest and most enthusiastic I’ve ever been around and I guarantee some exciting things in the future for Rock104.com,” said Wright. The new Rock104.com can be easily accessed via the internet at www.Rock104.com and the student-led team is researching additional new media opportunities to increase distribution of the programming across multiple platforms including smart phones such as iPhones, Blackberry and Android devices. Listeners are invited to participate in building the new radio station by joining more than 450 others who have already given theRock104.com work group their feedback in an online survey which is available at the same Rock104.com homepage.
