Sylvia Chan-Olmsted named Associate Dean for Research
Dr. Sylvia Chan-Olmsted, Al and Effie Flanagan Professor in telecommunication, has accepted the appointment as the College’s associate dean for research, beginning July 1, Dean Terry Hynes announced.
Chan-Olmsted has been a faculty member at UF since 1997. Prior to her UF appointment, she was an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University for six years. She gave up tenure and promotion there in order to join our faculty. She was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor at UF in 2000 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2005.
Chan-Olmsted’s research record includes one sole-authored book, one co-authored book, one edited book, nine sole-authored or co-authored book chapters, and 30 sole-authored or co-authored refereed publications—all of these since her appointment to UF. Since 2002 she has been project coordinator on two grants funded by the Department of Education to UF’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). She has been principal investigator or co-principal investigator on three other grants, two from the Magness Institute of the Cable Center and one from the National Association of Broadcasters.
Chan-Olmsted earned Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from Michigan State University and a bachelor of arts degree from Tamkang University.
