Students place second, seventh in Hearst round one
Photojournalism students Tim Hussin and Jeremiah Wilson placed second and seventh, respectively, in round one of the annual Hearst Foundation photojournalism competition, professor John Freeman announced.
With these two winners, UF leads the country in the photojournalism category of the competition.
Hussin won $1,500 and Wilson won $500, with matches to the Department of Journalism. Hussin continues on as one of 12 semi-finalists with a 50/50 chance at the shoot-out in San Francisco in June 2008. The students’ submitted photographs were shot for internships, the Alligator and course assignments, including this year’s Florida FlyIns class. Both participated in the 2006 Berlin Study Abroad program.
The competition continues with round 2, news/sports, in January; and round 3, picture story, in March.
