Tim Hussin wins College Photographer of the Year competition
The 63rd College Photographer of the Year is photojournalism senior Tim Hussin. Hussin’s work was awarded the gold in the portfolio category as well as gold in multimedia – individual still image/audio story or essay. He was also the silver winner in multimedia – individual video/mixed media story or essay and the bronze winner in documentary picture story.
As College Photographer of the Year, Tim is offered an internship at National Geographic magazine.
Judges viewed 13,313 still images and 169 multimedia projects entered by 566 student photographers from 121 colleges and universities in 13 different countries.
Judges for this year’s competition at the University of Missouri were Melissa Farlow, freelancer for National Geographic; Travis Fox, multimedia producer at Washingtonpost.com; Tammy Lechner, freelancer/co-owner of Still Productions and Steve Rice, photographer/videographer at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Amanda Lucier of the University of Missouri is the First Runner-up with silver in the portfolio category. Second Runner-up with a bronze in the portfolio category is Lane Christiansen of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Tim’s winning work resulted primarily from internships at the Salt Lake City Deseret News and the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. He has been a participant in the journalism department’s Berlin Journalism and Florida FlyIns programs and currently assists in lab work for JOU 3601 and JOU 4604.
In last year’s national Hearst contest, Tim won first place in multimedia and second in the portrait/feature round for the photojournalism division.
