A photography exhibit by journalism seniors Kelly McLarnon and Lauren Langston was featured in the August 31 story in The Independent Florida Alligator, “Photography exhibit features UF students’ travels.” Some of the exhibited photos were from the Berlin 2009 study abroad program led by photojournalism professor John Freeman, who is quoted in the article.

The Gainesville Sun on August 30 published “Free speech and the right to offend,” an op-ed piece by Brechner Eminent Scholar in Mass Communication Clay Calvert.

Fox Sports, SunSports and Urban-Legends Entertainment produced a behind-the-scenes look at University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications students creating “Feed Your Growl” advertising spots: Watch the video.

Clay Calvert, Brechner Eminent Scholar in Mass Communication, was interviewed about the subject of news, privacy and mediated voyeurism on the August 9 program of the Radio New Zealand National show “Mediawatch.” (audio link). Calvert appears about two-thirds of the way in to the show.

The “Feed Your Growl” campaign developed in partnership between Department of Advertising students and Sun Sports Creative University is featured in the August 18 story on Gatorzone.com, “‘Feed Your Growl’ Gator Campaign Unveiled.”

The Society of Professional Journalists has named its University of Florida student chapter the Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year. SPJ will present the honor Aug. 28 at its annual convention in Indianapolis during the Mark of Excellence Awards Luncheon to chapter President April Dudash, a journalism senior at UF’s College of Journalism and Communications. During the 2009 summer commencement ceremony, three UF College of Journalism and Communications students received Outstanding Scholar awards from the Alumni Association: Amanda Niklaus, PR 2009, Tracy Shank, JM 2009, and Natalie Bachman, TEL 2009. Pictured with them is John Wright, dean of the College. The College graduated 138 students during the summer commencement.
