Kaplan wins film honors
Professor John Kaplan’s (Journalism) health science education film project has won a Best of Competition award from the Broadcast Educators Association. He received the honor for his documentary short film, Pulitzer Pride, earlier this month at the Festival of Media Arts in Las Vegas, as part of the BEA international convention.
Also this month, the film is an Official Selection at the Athens International Film + Video Festival. Kaplan also lectured and screened his full-length feature film, Not As I Pictured, as well as Pulitzer Pride, at Michigan State University.As a guest lecturer, he also addressed several classes of MSU’s School of Journalism, Asian Studies Center, and African Studies Center.
Kaplan’s autobiographical cancer education project was featured in the March edition of News Photographer magazine, and has also received grant funding from a West Coast-based foundation.
