UF student journalists win 14 SPJ regional awards
University of Florida student journalists will take home 14 regional Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The award winners will be recognized at the SPJ Region 3 Conference April 1-2 in Birmingham, Ala.
The winners are:
- Editorial Writing: Jared Misner, The Independent Florida Alligator
- Feature Writing: Jared Misner, "Eye of the beholder," The Independent Florida Alligator
- In-Depth Reporting: Henry Taksier, "A haunting past, pt. 1 and 2,"The Fine Print
- Best Student Magazine: Andi Babineau, Michael Bakum and the Orange & Blue Staff, Orange & Blue
- Radio News Reporting: Trent Kelly, "Airboats fan controversy," WUFT-FM
- Radio News Reporting: Jason Hackett, "PALS program aims to end bullying in Alachua County schools," WUFT-FM
- Radio News Reporting: Brittany Thompson, "Clam farmers play the waiting game," WUFT-FM
- Radio Feature: Trent Kelly, "New manatee rules may sink businesses," WUFT-FM
- Radio Feature: Jason Hackett, "University of Florida marching band practices on the field as grueling as the football team," WUFT-FM
- Television Breaking News Reporting: Vic Micolucci, "University police shoot grad student," WUFT-TV

First place regional winners advance to the national round of judging.
