Wells Fargo awards $15,000 gift to Department of Public Relations
Wells Fargo, one of the nation’s leading financial services companies, has provided a $15,000 gift to the Public Relations Advisory Council fund at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. The donation will help fund professional development and academic activities for faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students in the Department of Public Relations.
“Gifts from companies like Wells Fargo allow us to pursue activities and projects that are necessary for our program to continue at its high level of excellence,” said Spiro Kiousis, chairman of the Public Relations Department. “As our state funding continues to diminish, we increasingly rely on the generosity of alumni, companies and friends to help support our programs and our students.”
The Wells Fargo funds also will be used to help with travel and other expenses related to presentation of refereed papers at national and international academic conferences. In addition, the gift also will support research activities of the department’s graduate students.
“Private support for our educational mission is vital now more than ever before,” said John Wright, dean of the College of Journalism and Communications. “Gifts such as this generous donation from Wells Fargo allow our College to remain among the elite programs in the country.”
In 2011, Wells Fargo donated more than $11 million to nonprofits in Florida and its team members volunteered more than 60,000 hours. To learn more, visit www.WellsFargo.com/donations.
