UF College of Journalism and Communications hires Director of Finance
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications has hired Jeffrey Pole, a media finance executive, as the College’s new director of finance, Dean Diane McFarlin announced today. He will join the College in mid-March.
Pole is currently the controller for Halifax Media Group’s South Region, Ocala StarBanner and Gainesville Sun, and also serves as the general manager of the Ocala StarBanner.
“Jeff has had a stellar career with the Halifax Media Group and before that, the New York Times Company,” said McFarlin, who worked with Pole at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. “His financial background will be invaluable to the College and its Media Properties as we grow our programs and entrepreneurial activities.”
Pole earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1984 from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and then served as an auditor for Earnst & Whinney for three years. He moved into the newspaper business in 1992, serving as credit manager and accounting manager for The Syracuse Newspapers before joining the New York Times Regional Media Group’s Sarasota Herald-Tribune in 1992 as financial services manager.
Pole worked at the Herald-Tribune until Nov. 2002 when he was promoted to controller of the Ocala Star Banner and Gainesville Sun. In 2012, he took on the additional responsibilities of controller of the Halifax Media Group’s South Region and general manager of the Ocala Star Banner.
