Celebrate July 4th on the 3rd at Fanfares & Fireworks
FANFARES & FIREWORKS will return to Gainesville on Friday, July 3 at 7 p.m. at the University of Florida Bandshell at Flavet Field on the UF campus.
The 2015 Independence Day Eve event is presented by the UF College of Journalism and Communications and its media properties: public broadcasting stations WUFT-TV and WUFT-FM, commercial radio stations WRUF -AM ESPN 850 and Country 103.7 The Gator, ROCK104.COM, and WRUF-TV. Admission is free.
Events sponsors include the City of Gainesville and the Florida Credit Union, with additional support from the University of Florida and GRU.
FANFARES & FIREWORKS will feature a variety of musical groups, an opportunity for families to picnic in the grass and a spectacular fireworks show.
The musical line-up includes Bears and Lions, a Gainesville group performing music that parents like and children enjoy; contemporary rock and pop music by InCrisis Band; and traditional favorites by the Gainesville Community Band under the direction of Gary Langford. The University of Florida Billy Mitchell Drill Team Color Guard will join the band during a salute to the armed forces.
WUFT-FM Operations Manager and Rock104.com Program Director Glenn Rickards and WUFT/WRUF News Manager Myra Monroe will serve as emcees.
FANFARES & FIREWORKS will conclude with a fireworks display by Skylighters of Florida set to the music of the Gainesville Community Band. The fireworks will begin at approximately 9:40 p.m.
During the event, LifeSouth Blood Center will conduct a blood drive and Aramark concessions will be available for purchase. More information is available at http://www.wuft.org/fireworks.
For safety reasons, no dogs, sparklers or alcohol are allowed at the event. Coolers are allowed, but may be subject to search by the University Police Department.
