Austin Vining Comments on Ways to Combat Fake News

“Austin Vining: Ministry of Truth a Looming Danger” was published in The Gainesville Sun on April 27. Vining, a graduate research fellow with the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, is a former reporter for The Vicksburg Post.

Vining comments on fake news and suggests three ways to combat this phenomenon including counter-speech, education and self-regulation. Vining argues that “before the government gets in the business of regulating truth, let’s consider the real facts — not those spoon-fed by those in office.”
