CJC Alum Receives National Award for Investigative Report

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications alumna Shelby Webb, B.S. Journalism 2013, current education reporter for the Houston Chronicle and former Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune writer, has won the national investigative award for medium-sized news outlets from the Education Writers Association for her Herald-Tribune investigation on disciplinary policies, including expulsions, in Sarasota County and across the state.
Webb’s “Expelled: No Second Chances,” focused on a dichotomy in the Sarasota County school district – a place with high academic standards and community support, but also a high rate of expulsions from 2010 – 2015.
