Andrew Selepak Comments on the Decrease in Summer Movie Theater Attendance
Andrew Selepak, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications director of the online Master’s program with a specialization in social media, was featured in “Why Franchises That Don’t Feature Capes or Tights Are Washing Out at the Box Office” published on CNBC.com on July 15.
In the article, Selepak argues that consumers are taking into consideration the cost of the movie ticket, concessions and film options.
“Going to the movies is expensive beyond just the price of admission,” Selepak said. “When you add in the drink and candy, you may end up spending close to fifty dollars on a date to see a movie with the same actors, playing the same parts, and telling the same jokes in the same tired storyline. Audiences just don’t see the value in it.”
