Herbert Lowe Pens Article on Project-Based Service Learning
Herbert Lowe, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism lecturer, is the author of “How Students Use Service Learning to Cover Diverse Communities” published in MediaShift on Nov. 13.
In the article, Lowe focuses on the multimedia packages created by Marquette University Journalism students in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Milwaukee Open Housing Marches. Students produced a series of articles, videos and photographs examining various aspects of the March on Milwaukee. The finished packages represented innovative, project-based service learning, as students mixed educational outcomes with authentic community service.
Lowe was the journalism professional-in-residence at Marquette University before joining the University of Florida in May.
