Frank LoMonte Wins NPPA First Amendment Award
Frank LoMonte, director of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Brechner Center for Freedom of Information has been awarded the Alicia Calzada First Amendment Award from the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). LoMonte was honored for his support and defense of the rights of visual journalists, especially those of students.
The Calzada award recognizes those who promote and advance the First Amendment, especially as it relates to news photographers. It is named after NPPA past-president Alicia Wagner Calzada, founder and longtime chair of NPPA’s Advocacy Committee, who is now an attorney specializing in media law.
The award will be presented during a ceremony in early March.
