Andrew Selepak Comments on Facebook Regulation and What Not to Include in Resumes
Andrew Selepak, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications director of the online Master’s program in social media, was quoted in “Facebook Will be Regulated…But Likely Not by Congress,” published in Kiplinger on April 13
The article focuses on the lack of knowledge that members of Congress have about Facebook. It suggests that this lack of knowledge won’t prevent them from thinking about new laws in response to the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal.
“There simply isn’t the political will to regulate Facebook. Even if laws are proposed and grand speeches made on the House and Senate floor, social media and the web work by collecting our data and sharing it with third parties,” said Selepak.
Selepak was also quoted in “This is the One Thing You Should Never Put on Your Resume,” published in the Money section of Time on April 11.
The article focuses on the one resume cliché that most likely will make hiring managers roll their eyes: claiming you are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
“Listing Microsoft Word as a skill should be removed from every resume,” says Selepak. “You wouldn’t list the ability to type in a resume that you typed. If you shook hands with someone during a job interview, you wouldn’t tell them one of your biggest skills is the ability to shake hands.”
