Myiah Hutchens Authors Chapter on Interpersonal Communication and Technology
Myiah Hutchens, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Public Relations assistant professor, is the author of “Political Discussion Online: Intersections Between Interpersonal Communication and Technology” a chapter published in Reflections on Interpersonal Communication Research, 2019.
In the book chapter, Hutchens describes her research about political communication online, highlighting ways in which technology changes how individuals communicate about politics. She also discusses the importance of misinformation and disinformation and how that will continue to shape online political communication in the future.
This book, Reflections on Interpersonal Communication Research, was designed to have experts in various sub-fields provide a more personal take on the research they had done to date. It highlights major findings and points out the direction the experts sub-fields are heading.
Hutchens is a political communication scholar with a focus on how exposure to a range of perspectives influences democratic outcomes. Much of her recent work has focused on online contexts.
