CJC Alum is the Author of a New Book Featuring Florida Icon Interviews
Art Levy, B.S. Journalism 1984, is the author of “Made in Florida: Artists, Celebrities, Activists, Educators and Other Icons in the Sunshine State” published by University of Florida Press on April 23.
The book is a compilation of 90 “Florida Icon” interviews Levy produced for Florida Trend magazine between 2007 and 2018. Interviewees include Carl Hiaasen, B.S. Journalism 1974 and 1992 Hall of Fame, Jeff Klinkenberg, B.S. Journalism 1974 and 2010 Hall of Fame, and David Lawrence Jr., Journalism 1963 and Hall of Fame 1982. Levy also interviewed a fourth Hall of Fame inductee – CJC Dean Diane McFarlin, B.S. Journalism 1976 and Hall of Fame 1999 – for Florida Trend’s January 2019 issue after the book’s manuscript was already completed.
Other “Made in Florida” interviewees with UF connections include former Gator coach Steve Spurrier, fine art photographer Jerry Uelsmann, W. George Allen, UF’s first African-American law school graduate, William Hough, the namesake of the business school’s Hough Hall, and Nan-Yao Su, a UF entomology professor who invented the Sentricon termite-control system.
Levy is an associate editor of Florida Trend, a statewide news and business magazine based in St. Petersburg.
