CJC Students Recognized in 2018-2019 Hearst Journalism Competition
Seven University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications student journalists were recognized in the 2018-2019 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition. Four will now go on to compete in the National Championship in San Francisco from June 1-6.
Telecommunication graduate Grace King, Telecommunication senior David Jones and Journalism graduate Meredith Sheldon will compete in the Broadcast News Championship and Journalism senior Mackenzie Behm will compete in the Multimedia Championship. Ethan Bauer, B.S. Journalism 2018, received first place in the Personality/Profile Writing category. Because he graduated in 2018, he is not eligible to participate in the 2019 Championship.
The 2018-2019 awards include:
First place: Ethan Bauer (Writing), David Jones (TV News II), Grace King (TV Features)
2nd Place: Mackenzie Behm (Multimedia II)
3rd Place: Telecommunication graduate Mary Grace Scully (TV News)
4th Place: Telecommunication graduate Delores Hinckley (Radio), Meredith Sheldon (TV Features)
6th Place: Mackenzie Behm (Multimedia II)
9th Place: Journalism graduate Cat Gloria (Multimedia II)
In addition, CJC placed in two Intercollegiate Competitions, receiving first place in Broadcast and fourth place in Multimedia.
The 2018-2019 Hearst Journalism Awards program consists of 14 competitions in college writing, photojournalism, radio, television, and multimedia. The top five finalists in each competition earn scholarship awards with matching grants going to their schools. Top winners in each division qualify to participate in the National Championship.
