Jay Hmielowski Co-Authors Article on Support for Home Smart Meter Installation
Jay Hmielowski, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Public Relations assistant professor, is the co-author of “The Social Dimensions of Smart Meters in the United States: Demographics, Privacy and Technology Readiness” published in Energy Research & Social Science, Volume 35, Sept. 2019.

Hmielowski, along with Amanda Boyd, Genevieve Harvey and Jinho Joo, examined smart meter technologies and the level of support for installing smart meters in people’s homes. Their results indicated that people were generally supportive of home installation. However, the support for technology varied based on privacy concerns, past experience with privacy violations and optimism regarding new technologies.
