Raegan Burden Comments on Promoting Work-Life Balance
Raegan Burden, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Advertising lecturer of cultural engagement, was interviewed on Nov. 29 on CGTN’s “Global Business with Rachelle Akuffo” about how companies and government are trying to improve the workplace.
Burden discussed why a shorter workweek can increase productivity and how viable it will be for companies in the long-term.
“Work-life balance becomes important and it is as much about protecting the profitability of a business as it is protecting the assets, which are the employees and the people that are contributing to that growth,” she said. “So, I think it becomes extremely important to address what is [causing the company] to lose market share. Sometimes it is the culture and sometimes it is the office that is getting in the way.”
Burden adds that tech-savvy companies need people to make them successful. She suggests that companies change the conversation internally and seek to remove the stigma that might be associated with paid time off. Employees whose jobs are protected and secure add balance to the equation.
