Clay Calvert Comments on False Claims Against Voting Machine Companies
Clay Calvert, director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, was quoted in “The ‘Red Slime’ Lawsuit That Could Sink Right-Wing Media” published in The New York Times on Dec. 21.
The article addresses the merits of possible defamation lawsuits against certain news organizations addressing false claims about voting machine fraud from Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems.
“They have a very good case,” Calvert, said of Smartmatic. “If these statements are false and we are taking them as factual statements, that’s why we have defamation law.”
