CJC Alumna Named 2021 Alachua County Public Schools Teacher of the Year
Nicole Harris, B.S. Advertising 2009, an English teacher at Gainesville High School, was named the 2021 Alachua County Public Schools Teacher of the Year during a virtual ceremony hosted by the Education Foundation of Alachua Count on Jan. 22.
During her eight-year tenure, Harris has implemented three successful programs including a Cambridge writing course for non-traditional students, a poetry and civic engagement club called “Canes on Da Mic” and an African American history class that was part of the Alachua County School Districts equity plan.
Alachua County has honored a teacher of the year annually since 1992, making Harris the 30th winner. She will now represent Alachua County Public Schools in the 2022 Florida Teacher of the Year competition.
