Clay Calvert Comments on the Florida Transparency in Technology Act
Clay Calvert, director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, is quoted in the editorial “DeSantis’ Attacks on Big Tech Are Political Theater and Go Against the First Amendment” published in the Miami Herald on Feb. 23.
The article focuses on Governor DeSantis’ proposed Transparency in Technology Act, whose goal is to protect Floridians from tech companies’ censorship that the governor says discriminates against conservatives.
The legislation “would compel social-media companies to host speech they don’t want to,” said Calvert. “Instead of a newspaper print medium, you’re now compelling social-media platforms to host the speech of individuals.”
