Moni Basu to Receive 2021 RCC Wilbur Award for Capturing the Essence of Cassadaga
Moni Basu, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Michael and Linda Connelly Lecturer for Narrative Nonfiction, will receive a 2021 Wilbur Award from the Religious Communicators Council (RCC) for “In Search of Spirits in Cassadaga” published in Flamingo magazine on Oct. 18, 2020.
Basu’s story is about a central Florida community known as the psychic capitol of the world and the home to Spiritualism followers since 1984. She also read her story for an episode of the “Hear-Tell” podcast on March 9.
Basu also was the recipient of a Wilbur Award in 2019 for a CNN Online news story “A Gunman Killed His Brother. Now Farris Barkat is on an American Journey.”
Since 1949, the Wilbur Awards have been presented annually to recognize excellence in the communication of religious issues, values, and themes in public secular media. The 2021 awards will be presented virtually during the RCC National Convention, April 6-9.
