CJC Alumna Receives 2021 RTDNF Fellowship
Shamarria Morrison, B.S. Telecommunication 2018, is the recipient of the N.S. Bienstock Fellowship from the Radio Television Digital News Foundation (RTDNF). She is currently a weekend anchor and multimedia journalist for WPSD Local 6, the NBC-affiliate in Paducah, Kentucky.
The $2,500 N.S. Bienstock Fellowship offers support to a new professional minority broadcast journalist. Morrison found her passion for telling stories about underrepresented and silenced voices while she was student at UF. At WPSD, she found those stories were best told through investigative journalism that focuses on the why and not just the who. She believes strong, passionate, and relevant journalism starts in a culturally diverse newsroom.
In addition to the fellowship, Morrison will be part of the 50th class of scholars and fellows and will be invited to attend the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) 21 news leadership retreat in Denver, Colorado in September 2021.
Since 1970, RTDNF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships and fellowships to nearly 600 young journalists as part of its mission as the educational arm of RTDNA.
