Cynthia Barnett’s “The Sound of the Sea” Chosen for Library Journal’s Best Science & Technology 2021 Book List
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Environmental Journalist-in-Residence Cynthia Barnett’s book, The Sound of the Sea: Seashells and the Fate of the Oceans, has been selected for the Best Science & Technology of 2021 list by Library Journal.

In the book, Barnett explores what seashells can tell us about the animals that inhabit them, the ecosystems they grow in, and the people who use them. The in-depth and lively narrative about seashells crosses disciplines, resulting in a delightful, informative, and momentous read for both enthusiasts and readers who have never picked up a shell.
This book was also selected for the Kirkus Reviews Best Nonfiction Books of the Year 2021 list and one of the best books of July by Apple Books.
