CJC Student Honored in 2021-2022 Hearst Multimedia Narrative Video Storytelling Competition
Meleah Lyden, a University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication Telecommunication senior, has placed 18th in the 2021-2022 Hearst Journalism Awards Multimedia Narrative Video Storytelling Competition. Harrison Hove, Journalism lecturer and associate department chair, served as her advisor.
Lyden’s entry, “Recovering Routine: A Family’s Fight for Normalcy” features Ava Lajaunie, a deaf autistic woman, and her family’s plight after Category 4 Hurricane Ida destroyed their home.
This is the first of four multimedia competitions during the 2021-2022 academic year. Judges reviewed 78 entries submitted from 47 schools.
The Journalism Awards Program, now in its 62nd year, added multimedia to the competitions in 2010. The program also includes five writing, one audio, two television, and two photojournalism competitions offering up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 103 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
