CJC Alumnus and Former Faculty Member Receives Presidential Appointment as Chair of the International Food and Agricultural Development Board
President Joe Biden has appointed Laurence Alexander, M.A.J.C. 1983 and former University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism professor and department chair, as chair of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD). The seven-member committee advises the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on issues concerning agriculture, higher education in developing countries and food insecurity.
Alexander has served as the Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) since 2013. As board chair, he will lead the team to ensure that USAID brings the assets of U.S. universities to bear on development challenges in agriculture and food security, and supports their representation in USAID programming.
Prior to joining UAPB, Alexander had a 22-year career at UF as a professor and administrator. He served as a distinguished teaching scholar, provost administrative fellow in the Office of Academic Affairs, Director of the Office of Minority Programs, Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Chair of the Department of Journalism.
