Roxane Coche Comments on Growing Popularity of Soccer and Formula One with American Viewers
Roxane Coche, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Media Production, Management, and Technology associate chair and assistant professor, was featured in a June 20 episode of “The Loop with Christian Bryant.”
The episode, “How Soccer and Formula One Are Winning Over American Fans,” focuses on the growing sports media landscape due to more streaming options and more sports that are available for viewing. Some sports are doing well while others are struggling to adapt, even some that have long been mainstays of American culture. Interest in soccer and Formula One racing has seen growth from Millennials and Gen Z.
According to Coche, “We are getting to a point where this generation has grown up with the ability to speak their mind and be who they truly are, perhaps more so than any other generation before. I think that the ability of having access to niche environments, niche sports in this case, has come through the power of the internet.”
