UFCJC Alum Authors New Comprehensive Sports Broadcasting Textbook

Kevin Hull, Ph.D. 2015, a former television sports broadcaster, is the author of the new textbook Sports Broadcasting with HKPropel Access to be published in 2023. The book offers a comprehensive look at the field and serves as a resource for entry-level sports broadcasters.

Each of the 13 chapters offer information on a variety of topics including the history of sports broadcasting, writing for on-air and digital platforms, video and camera techniques, social media, career options and issues and ethics.

The book also includes related online learning aids and activities available from the e-learning platform HKPropel. Video lessons and audio clips demonstrate skills covered in the text, such as setting up for an interview, capturing footage with a cell phone camera, and preparing for a broadcast.

According to Hull, “The 200+ pages are full of great tips for those looking to enter the field of sports broadcasting – or those who are just looking to brush up on their skills. There are practical tips, lessons, examples, and scenarios that put you in the shoes of a sports broadcaster.”
