As a Report for America (RFA) Corps Member, you’ll be a part of a movement to strengthen communities, and our democracy, through local journalism that is truthful, fair, fearless and smart. We currently have 300 reporters and photographers in 200+ newsrooms serving communities across the U.S. We are growing our journalism team and encourage you to apply! Report for America helps local newsrooms report on under-covered issues and communities by helping them find great emerging or experienced journalists and paying half their salary. Corps members are talented, service-oriented journalists who provide residents with the information they need to improve their communities and hold powerful institutions accountable.
What Makes a Good Corps Member Journalist?
College graduates who were editor-in-chief or managing editor of their college newsroom and who completed a minimum of one professional internship or previous reporting or photography experience in a local newsroom are well-suited to cover significant beats and hit the ground running. We are also actively recruiting alumni and experienced journalists.
What Beats are Available?
Many of the beats of our corps members are what you might expect: education, healthcare, city hall, issues impacting communities of color, criminal justice, elections and voting, housing inequities, and more.
