Celeste Wagner Co-Authors Blog on Supreme Court Partisanship and Gender Equality Concerns
Celeste Wagner, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism assistant professor, and Jim Woo Kim, assistant professor at Kookmin University School of Communication in South Korea, are the authors of “In Support of the Supreme Court, Partisanship Trumps Concern Around Gender Equality” published in The London School of Economics and Political Science “American Politics and Policy” blog on Oct. 24.
Wagner and Kim looked at whether the recent Roe vs. Wade decision has affected trust in the Supreme Court and raised questions about the institution’s legitimacy. They found that since 2018, trust in the Supreme Court has become increasingly partisan with Democratic voters’ trust falling while Republican’s confidence has remained almost the same.
According to the authors, “Overall, the Court’s decisions around issues of gender equality and women’s rights have found Democratic men and women aligned in their increasing distrust of the Court, and Republican men and women aligned in their stable trust in this institution. Partisanship trumps concern around gender equality, an aspect of public life that continues to move backwards in American society.”
