Sylvia Chan-Olmsted Featured in Podcast on the Future of Podcasts
Sylvia Chan-Olmsted, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Media Production, Management, and Technology professor and Media Consumer Research director, is featured in “Like…It’s Alive!,” an episode of the podcast “How Does Tomorrow Sound?” from Podfly posted on Oct. 13.
Host Corey Coats interviews Chan-Olmsted, Steven Schlozman, Martin Spinelli, and Sorcha Ni Fhlainn about how podcast listenership will mature in the future and if people will outgrow the evolutionary need for a story. They also discuss whether people will tune in to AI chatbots, how listenership trends are changing, and will future audiences change the stories that are told.
In the podcast, Chan-Olmsted shared some insights from her research, including listeners’ desire to find something that is gratifying, how heavy podcast users are becoming light users and from a more diverse group, and growth in podcast listenership in the 12 to 24-something age group looking to dive deeper into a topic.
“How Does Tomorrow Sound?” is a six-episode series on the future of podcasts. The hosts endeavor to predict what podcasts might evolve into in 10 years’ time.
