UFCJC Alumna Places in Top 20 in the 2022-23 Hearst Journalism Awards Photojournalism 1 Competition
Lauren Witte, B.S. Journalism 2022, has placed tenth in the 2022-23 Hearst Journalism Awards Photojournalism 1 – News and Features competition. The first of two photojournalism competitions of the academic year featured 119 entries from 68 schools.
Prior to graduation, Witte was a photo intern at the Tampa Bay Times, the Texas Tribune and The Independent Florida Alligator.
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications is tied for ninth with the University of Kentucky in the Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition. The current rankings are based on the highest accumulated student points in the first photo competition.
The 63rd annual Hearst Journalism Awards added photojournalism to the competitions in 1970. The program, offering up to $700,000 in awards, consists of five monthly writing competitions, two photojournalism competitions, one audio competition, two television competitions, and four multimedia competitions – with championship finals in all divisions.
