Two UFCJC Students Honored in 2022-23 Hearst Journalism Awards Personality/Profile Writing Competition
Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism seniors finished in the Top 20 in the 2022-23 Hearst Journalism Awards Personality/Profile Writing Competition. Anna Guber received second place for “Steel and Smiles” and Avery Lotz tied for 17th place for “A Changing Tide.” Both stories were published in the UFCJC Atrium Magazine.
Guber will receive a $2,000 cash prize and will qualify for a semifinal round. Lotz has placed in the Top 20 in three competitions this year, including two honors in the Writing Competition and one in the Multimedia Competition.

The Journalism Awards Program, now in its 63rd year, also includes two photojournalism, one audio, two television, and four multimedia competitions. The program offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
