UFCJC Memorial Scholarship in Sports Journalism Honors Alumna Aimee Nicole Sachs
The family of University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) alumna Aimee Nicole Sachs, B.S. Telecommunication 2007, has established the Aimee Nicole Sachs Memorial Scholarship in Sports Journalism in her honor. Sachs passed away on May 31 at the age of 38 after suffering a series of strokes.
The scholarship will benefit students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing a career in sports communications through the Journalism Department’s Sports & Media specialization.
Sachs’ spent a considerable part of her young career as a print and online journalist — including stints with the Tallahassee Democrat, Bradenton Herald, Lakeland Ledger, and with MLB.com, which allowed her to cover her favorite sport and her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves. She spent six years covering the courts in Atlanta and Tampa for Courthouse News Service and the Florida state government for The Florida Channel, and was a contractor helping to cover Florida’s 2022 primaries for floridapolitics.com.
Sachs is the daughter of Ron Sachs, B.S. Journalism 1972 and Hall of Fame 1998.
