Dean Hub Brown Elected Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication Vice President
Hub Brown, dean of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC), has been elected vice president of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC). His term will run from October 2023 through September 2024. In October 2024, Brown will become president-elect and then president the following year. He will also serve as a member of the ASJMC Executive Committee.
Brown has been UFCJC dean since 2021 and has quickly established himself as a leading journalism and communication program administrator. Under Brown’s leadership, the College has built a state-of-the-art digital analysis lab, established a presence in New York City, initiated a rebranding of its extensive sports program and launched a strategic planning process.
Previously, Brown was associate dean for research, creativity, international initiatives and diversity and an associate professor of broadcast and digital journalism at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. As associate dean, Brown managed the Newhouse School’s incentives to facilitate research and creative activity; aided department chairs, the school’s Diversity Committee and individual faculty members in promoting diversity in curriculum, faculty hiring and student recruitment; and promoted international engagement among faculty and students, including student/faculty exchanges, memoranda of understanding and promotion of the Newhouse School abroad.
ASJMC is a national educational association for journalism and mass communication programs at the college and university level, primarily in the United States and Canada. The organization supports its members, who are mostly academic leaders, and is dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism and mass communications.
