University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student journalists are competing in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards program. The program includes five writing, two photojournalism, one audio, two television and four multimedia competitions.

Current UFCJC results include:

• Explanatory Writing: Alan Halaly, first place
• Personality/Profile: Lucille Lannigan, first place
• Multimedia Narrative Storytelling: Serra Sowers, fifth place
• Multimedia Innovative Journalism: Aubrey Bocalan, third place; Ashleigh Lucas, sixth place
• Multimedia Digital journalism: Serra Sowers, 20th place
• Multimedia Digital News or Enterprise Team: Jennica Clerveaux, Paris Coughlin, Sydney Johnson, Taylor Mayer, Sandra McDonald, Gabriela Rodriguez and Serra Sowers, 11^th place
• Investigative Reporting: Meghan McClone, third place; Loren Miranda, 13th place
• Feature Writing: Alan Halaly, sixth place; Kylie Williams, eighth place
• Television I: Chris Will, seventh place; Macie Goldfarb, 11^th place
• Television News: Chris Will, 10th place
• Photo One News & Features: Lorenzo Vasquez, 18^th place tie
• Photo II Picture Story/Series: Madilyn Gemme, 14th place
• Audio News and Features: Siena Duncan, 12^th place tie, Ailee Shanes, 15^th place

The final UFCJC Intercollegiate competition standings:

• Overall: Second place
• Writing Competition: Second place
• Audio and Television Competition: Fourth place
• Multimedia Competition: Fourth place

One UFCJC student journalist, Serra Sowers, B.S. Journalism 2024, competed in the Hearst Journalism Awards Multimedia National Championship from June 1-7 in San Francisco. She received second place and a $7,500 award.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, now in its 64^th year, offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
