UFCJC Online Master’s Adjunct Instructor Authors New Book on Crisis and Risk Management
Matt Charles, a University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) online master’s program adjunct instructor, is the author of “Shit Show: An Unexpected Life in Crisis and Risk Management” published on March 14.
Charlies is the UFCJC online instructor for MMC6213 Strategic Communication: Ethics and Concepts.
The book chronicles Charles’ life as a special investigator, nonprofit foundation communications director, university spokesperson and professor. It features his personal reflections and lessons learned from a life path that has set him on a collision course with many crises.
He lays out compelling first-hand narratives of what happened, how, the impact and response, and what could have been done better. His case studies include a New York City child fatality case that became a dual-crime scene when a reporter was struck by a vehicle, squashing a uranium mining project in his hometown, and the tragic 2017 Unite the Right rally when Nazis and white supremacists confronted participants in Charlottesville, Virginia.
