UFCJC Student Film Wins First Place in 29th Annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films
Luigi Bencosme, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) senior, received first place in the 29th annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) College Feature/Short category for his independent study film “Sweet Nothing.” The film was chosen from 529 entries reviewed by 47 industry judges from around the world.
“Sweet Nothing” explores the unique complexities of queer love. It follows the character of Andrew as he goes to a therapy intake session for what he can best describe as typical anxiety. Through a series of questions, his therapist helps Andrew deconstruct the turbulent relationship he had just experienced. As Andrew recounts the story in a series of progressively moving flashbacks, the audience experiences Andrew’s shift in perspective as he takes off the “rose-colored” glasses to see things for what they really were.
Bencosme served as the producer, writer and director for the film. MPMT senior Carolina Zamora served as co-writer and co-director and Chante Da Silva, B.S. MPMT 2023, served as co-producer. Bencosme worked closely with MPMT Lecturer Iman Zawahry on the development and production of the film.
