UFCJC Alum Selected for Prestigious POLITICO Journalism Institute
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) alumnus Silas Morgan, B.S. Journalism 2024, was selected for the 2024 class of the POLITICO Journalism Institute (PJI), an intensive training program designed to advance newsroom diversity. The competitive program, from May 28 – June 7, is hosted by POLITICO, a political journalism organization that covers issues, ideas and personalities behind politics and policy in the United States and in the global arena.
Morgan will be one of eight Washington, D.C.-based journalists in the 10-day PJI program, which offers hands-on training for undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates interested in covering politics and policy. The program includes interactive workshops, sessions with industry leaders and mentor pairings. It also takes participants behind the scenes in the historic locations where news is made, including the White House, Congress and the National Press Club.
Participants split time between the POLITICO newsroom in Arlington, Virginia, and American University, where they are provided housing. Some participants will also report from POLITICO’s bureaus in Sacramento, California, and New York City.
While at UFCJC, Morgan was a Fresh Take Florida reporter. The College in April honored Morgan with the H.G. “Buddy” Davis Award for Promise in Reporting and Editing. Following PJI, he will join the Orlando Sentinel newsroom as a breaking news/criminal justice reporter.
