These programs should focus on strengthening economic, social, and environmental conditions in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and/or Vanuatu.
- Program Objectives: Media Literacy and Promotion:
- Promoting media literacy and engagement, emphasizing the role of media in democratic societies.

- Program background: The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section (PAS) in Jakarta invites proposals for projects that further and support the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the U.S. through educational, cultural, informational, and media programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. All programs must include an American cultural or media-related element, or a connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
- Program Objectives:
- Combating Disinformation: activities that encourage identification of and resistance to dis/misinformation or hoaxes, knowledge of reliable sources for accurate factual information, cybersecurity awareness, and associated critical thinking skills.
- Environmental Issues and Climate Crisis: activities that increase awareness of regional and global environmental challenges, climate change, and sustainable development; and/or promote innovation in support of combating climate change or supporting alternative energy sources.
- Diversity and Inclusivity: activities that promote the value of human diversity and inclusiveness of Indonesians in business, academia, government, and civil society. Areas of diversity include race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other status.

- Funding available: up to $75,000 for development and up to $700,000 for production
- Period of performance: 6-12 months for development and 1-3 years for production
- Program background: The Media Projects program supports the development, production, and distribution of radio programs, podcasts, and documentary films that engage general audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. Projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship and incorporate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical; proposals must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience. The Division of Public Programs encourages media projects that promote a deeper understanding of American history and culture as well as those that examine international themes and subjects in the humanities. Film and television projects may be stand-alone documentaries or a series of programs. Radio and podcast projects may be single programs, a series, or segments within an ongoing program. Projects may include supplementary components such as discussion programs or websites.
- Program Objectives:
- Development- Development awards (up to $75,000) enable media producers to collaborate with scholars to develop humanities content and other program elements. Awards must result in a script or detailed treatment(s). You may also use a Development award to plan for outreach and public engagement.
- Production- Production awards (up to $700,000) must result in the production and distribution of radio, podcast, television, and documentary film projects.
Health Communication

- Deadline: All applicants are required to submit an initial letter of inquiry (LOI) for each of their proposed projects by 5:00 PM EDT on October 10, 2024 (tentative- TBD in August)
- Funding available: NIHCM Foundation is making a total of $500,000 available to support our journalism and research grant programs. This funding will be allocated across the two programs according to the merits of the proposals received.
- Period of performance: Projects should be published within a year of the grant awarded.
- Program Objectives:
- Health Reporting- innovative journalism covering consumer health and health care. The reporting should have a strong evidence base and explore and/or inform the public about important health issues.
- Educational Opportunities for health care Reporters
- Support for documentary films and their public engagement campaigns (full production costs not allowed)
- NOTE:
- Letters of inquiry (our application) must be submitted via NIHCM’s online entry system https://nihcm.grantplatform.com/ by 5:00 PM EDT on October 10, 2024. In addition to entering basic information about the submitter and the project, you will also upload a narrative summary of your study.
