UFCJC Faculty, Students and Alumni Honored at AEJMC 2024 Conference

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) faculty, alumni and students will be honored for research and teaching excellence at the 107th annual Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Conference in Philadelphia from Aug. 8-11.

UFCJC faculty award winners include:

  • Wayne Wanta, Journalism professor emeritus, Paul J. Deutschmann Award for Excellence in Research, AEJMC’s highest research award recognizing a body of significant research over the course of an individual’s career.
  • Rebecca Frazer, Public Relations assistant professor, AEJMC International Communication Division’s teaching contest winner and the Top Method Paper award from the Communication Theory and Methodology Division forValidation of the Character Morality-as-Cooperation Questionnaire (CMACQ).”
  • Yang Feng, Advertising associate professor in artificial intelligence (AI) AEJMC Advertising Division 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award.
  • Marcia DiStaso, Research associate dean and Public Relations professor, recognized as AEJMC Media Management, Econoomics, and Entrepreneurship Division Outstanding Paper Reviewer.

UFCJC graduate student, alumni and faculty AEJMC research paper awards include:

  • Advertising Division: Chris DeFelice, First place Graduate and Undergraduate Student Paper Award for “Reclaiming Premium Brand Equity: Establishing A Post-Pandemic Framework for Theatrical Film Advertising on Social Media.”
  • Advertising Division: Incoming Advertising Assistant Professor Jeongmin Ham, Top Special-Topic Paper Award for “From Toddler to Teen: The Bit to Byte Growing-up Narrative Effect of a Virtual Influencer on Consumer Perceptions and Brand Choice.”
  • Communicating Science, Health, Environment and Risk Division: Incoming STEM Translational Communication Center Health Communication Associate Professor Francis Dalisay, Fourth place paper (tie) for “Parental Support, Social Media Disorder, and Depressive Symptoms Among Early Adolescents in the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands: The Case of Guam.”
  • Communication Technology Division: Eliana DuBosar, Ph.D. 2024, Brittany Shaughnessy and Myiah Hutchens, UFCJC Public Relations associate professor and chair: Top Paper forI’ve Been Targeted for Going Against the Narrative: Understanding Implications of Content Moderation and De-platforming.”
  • Media Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship Division: Chris DeFelice: Second Place Student Paper Award for “To #ReleaseTheSnyderCut: A Case Study on the Influence of Astroturf Campaigns on High-Risk Management Decisions.”
  • Political Communication Division: Eliana DuBosar, Brittany Shaughnessy, Luna Pittet Gonzalez and Myiah Hutchens: Second place Faculty Paper Award for “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Disagreeable Political Discussion Frequency and Content Moderation.”

 The mission of AEJMC is to promote the highest possible standards for journalism and mass communication education, to cultivate the widest possible range of communication research, to encourage the implementation of a multi-cultural society in the classroom and curriculum, and to defend and maintain freedom of communication to achieve better professional practice and an informed public.
