UFCJC Student Journalists Honored for Atrium Magazine Features
Four University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student journalists were honored in the 2024 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Magazine Division’s Student Magazine Contest for work published in Atrium, the first narrative nonfiction magazine published by UFCJC students.
The magazine contest received 137 entries from 21 colleges and universities across nine categories. UFCJC students were named as either the winner or runner up in four of the nine categories:
- Feature: Winner, Sophia Abolfathi, Media Production, Management, and Technology senior, for “The Atlantic Sojourner”
- Profile: Winner, Heather Bushman, B.S. Journalism 2023, for “I’d Never Seen a Gun Before”
- DEI: Winner, Luena Rodriguez-Feo Vileira, Journalism senior, for “Liquid Bodies, Soft Hearts”
- Essay: Runner-up, Lindee Walker, Journalism sophomore for “Transplant.”
The AEJMC Student Magazine Contest recognizes magazine entries that are sponsored or advised by journalism programs and written, edited, designed and produced by students.
