Ken Pemberton Retires from UFCJC After Nearly 22 Years of Service
Ken Pemberton, WUFT-TV producer/director in the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center, is leaving the College after nearly 22 years of service.
During his tenure, Pemberton has trained and mentored thousands of students in television production and used his contacts across the country to help UFCJC graduates get industry-related jobs. He served as the television production manager for “WUFT News First at Five” weekday newscasts and offered students insights into the day-to-day challenges of working under deadline-oriented, pressure-packed live television scenarios.
Pemberton’s achievements include serving as the instructor for “BASIC 5,” an introductory course to television production, and as the technical director for GatorVision’s productions of Florida football and Florida basketball coaches shows.
He produced and directed hundreds of television episodes of “Gator Beat with Steve Russell” and “Law Matters” with Levin College of Law Professor Emeritus Ken Nunn. He also helped to create “Knight Talks” for the Knight Division for Student Scholarships and Student Inclusion.
“Helping students explore and learn television production, and then watching them grow and graduate and get jobs, has been the most rewarding part of my career. When a student contacts me years later, and thanks me for helping them, it’s a very humbling feeling,” said Pemberton.
