UFCJC Students Participate in First CNN Academy Held in the U.S.
Twelve University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) students are participating in the CNN Academy, a five-day journalism training bootcamp at CNN’s Techwood campus in Atlanta from Oct. 12-16.
UFCJC is one of eight colleges taking part in the first CNN Academy to be held in the U.S. The course includes presentations by CNN anchors, correspondents, editors, producers and executives, and students will learn the art of storytelling, mobile journalism, ethics, artificial intelligence and writing for digital platforms. Once their training is complete, they will go into the field to gather content for their own stories and present them at the end of the five-day course.
Following the bootcamp, 24 students from Georgia Tech, UFCJC and Howard University will be among 160 of their peers from around the world who will gather in the Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates (UAE), to take part in a special CNN Academy Newsroom Simulation. They will engage in a week-long immersive exercise centered on the role of artificial intelligence in the newsroom and learn the fundamentals of investigative reporting.
Established in 2020, the CNN Academy aims to nurture the skills and talent of the next generation of journalists and content creators. More than 1,000 students from all over the world have participated in CNN Academy programs, and it has partnered with educational institutions in Spain, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong, Iraq and the UAE.
In addition UFCJC, other Colleges participating in the current CNN Academy include the University of Alabama, Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, Howard University, Morehouse College and Spelman College.
