Myiah Hutchens Speaks on Polarization and Communication and Will Serve on an Election Night Watch Party Panel
Myiah Hutchens, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Public Relations associate professor and chair, spoke to the Gotham Gator Club virtual meeting on “Polarization and Communication: The Impact of Social Media” on Oct. 29.
According to Hutchens, “The increased gap between how we view our own political party and the ‘other’ party is well documented; however, the impact of our communication habits on affective polarization is less well understood.”
Hutchens will also be part of a three-person Election Night Watch Party panel, hosted by the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education, the University Athletic Association and the Office of Public Policy Events.
The panel of political experts will delve into current and historical election trends, providing context and predictions for the 2024 elections. They will cover everything from local races to the presidential showdown. The event will be emceed by UF student athletes Anna Moore and Emma Weyant and is free and open to the public.
