Sue Wagner: A Commitment to Community Relations and Service
In Sue Wagner’s 38-year career at the University of Florida, she has dedicated herself to building relationships with the North Central Florida community through WUFT-TV/FM, FANFARES & FIREWORKS and as a leader in UF’s Campaign for Charities.
A 1981 graduate of CJC, Sue joined WUFT in 1986 to create and publish the classical music and television program guides. In her public media role, she has served as promotion manager, director of communications, special events coordinator and now community relations coordinator. Since 2004, she has been the annual coordinator for the highly successful and beloved FANFARES & FIREWORKS Independence Day eve celebration. All of this is on top of her communications role at the College, including promoting CJC through our college news stories and newsletters.
Sue has also been directly involved with the community as 24-year member of CrimeStoppers of Alachua County, serving as chair in 2023; Keep Alachua County Beautiful Executive Committee vice president (2023-2025); and Leadership Gainesville Council of Advisors since 2011.
While her role has been mostly behind the scenes, she stepped into the spotlight in 2004 as the voice of UF Health’s Health in a Heartbeat, which is distributed to public radio stations nationwide and on the Armed Forces Radio Network. Since 2019, she has been the host of “Tell Me About It,” a weekly 30-minute show featuring non-profit organizations, events, UF research and UF authors.
Sue has extended her connection to the community with leadership roles in the UF Campaign for Charities. She has served on the campaign’s steering committee since 2015 and is the College’s campaign ambassador and coordinator of our annual paper airplane competition with HHP.
“I enjoy working in the public service environment and with community service organizations,” Sue explained. “It allows me to interact with all kinds of people with various interests and from all walks of life. It also provides the opportunity to share information on programs, services and events for both UFCJC and the media properties.”
Sue also gives back to the College in a variety of roles, most currently as president of the CJC Staff Council; to students, as a Reitz Scholar Mentor from 2015-2023; and to the industry with four terms as the Advertising Federation of Gainesville president.
