Keynote: Benji Backer, “Making Climate Change Nonpartisan Again”

Benji Backer, author of The Conservative Environmentalist and founder of the American Conservation Coalition, works to depoliticize climate change and unify audiences around shared values and concerns such as protecting the places we call home. In 2025 he will launch the Nature is Nonpartisan movement devoted to restoring America’s cross-partisan environmental legacy.

Vocabulary of Trust: New insights into words, language and climate change

Journalists’ climate-reporting workshop

Join us at the UF College of Journalism and Communications for Thursday morning’s workshop, with sessions on covering extreme weather, meteorological data and more. Trainers include environment reporter Max Chesnes of the Tampa Bay Times and climatologist Emily Powell of the Florida Climate Institute at Florida State University. The workshop is free and open to professional and student journalists and communicators.
